Just when you think you’ve got the latest cell phone another one comes on the market! Keeping up with the latest technology means deciding exactly what you want your cell phone to do, although the term “cell phone” is rapidly becoming so yesterday, I guess we should now be calling them mobile devices.

If you’re confused then don’t be. What do you actually need your cell phone to do? If you rarely text, send emails or access the internet then don’t buy something that has too many bells and whistles because whether you use these capabilities or not your cell phone bill may become so high that your all-singing and all-dancing phone becomes totally cost ineffective.

What I like about the latest mobile devices is that they do away with many of the other devices I’ve been dragging around. I no longer need GPS, I use my cell phone as an alarm clock and a diary and my laptop rarely gets taken out of its case. I have no idea where my MP3 player is either, because all my music is now on my phone and my digital camera rarely gets used.

I also need fast internet access and the phone I chose, the Samsung Galaxy SII is definitely going to be my BFF for the next 12 months. Two years ago I purchased a phone with internet access that was so slow it drove me insane, I have to admit I was wary of buying another but the Galaxy has exceeded my expectations. It and the iPhone are about the most popular phones on the market today and I am sure they will continue to be so during 2012 but your choice should be based around the phone’s operating system.

A Windows-based operating system will allow you to use “Pocket Word” and “Pocket Excel” to edit office documents if that’s what you need. RIM’s Blackberry is probably the best device for sending, creating and receiving emails and it’s great for working on Facebook if that’s your thing. Continue reading »

With every new release, the smartphone market is offering something new to the consumers. Ever since Apple’s first iPhone was released 4 years ago, mobile phones have gone better and smarter, literally putting the world at consumers’ finger tips. From being a device used for talking, mobile phones have taken many different roles for different people. 2011 was an exciting year for mobile phone market which saw the release of iPhone 4s. However, it was a sad year as well for the tech world with the death of Steve Jobs. However, as is rightly said, “the show must go on”, so must the world of mobile phones. Here is a list of 5 most awaited phones of 2012 that are expected to hit the market at different times next year.

iPhone 5

People, especially iPhone fans were slightly disappointed when iPhone 4s was launched in the latter part of this year instead of iPhone 5. The fact that iPhone 4s was still a hit among people around the world is another story. However, come next year and indications are that Apple with launch iPhone 5. iPhone 5 is rumored to be Steve Jobs’ last project. iPhone 4s saw the introduction of Siri in Beta mode. iPhone 5 could well see the introduction of the intelligent voice assistant in its full avatar. And if it was indeed Steve Jobs’ last project, you could well be prepared for a surprise or two. Maybe a better display screen, which is rumored to be used for iPad 3?

Amazon Blaze

Amazon is one company which has come a long way in a very short span of time. It started off with books, moved onto the eBook reader, thus revolutionizing the reading world. It then moved onto applications and now, news is that Amazon will be launching a mobile phone next year under the name Blaze. According to information, the phone will be Android based with 1.2 GHz processor, front and back camera, NFC and even a solar panel on the back of the phone. Let’s wait and watch! Continue reading »

In North America we call them cell phones, in other countries they are referred to as mobile phones but whatever they’re called the technology is the fastest growing in the world. There is now a mobile phone for everyone, whether you just want to make a call or if you need a mini-computer that can do just about anything that a PC or laptop can do.

With some many different mobile phone companies having their hands in the pie, a few giants have been fighting over control of this multi-billion dollar business. Recently AT&T’s proposed $39 billion purchase of T-Mobile USA was given the thumbs down by the federal government despite having 93 different lobbyists influencing and twisting arms in Washington and campaign contributions to both sides of the house totaling a staggering $46 million to date.

This is good news for the consumer who will continue to get competitive cell phone rates.

Basic cell phones are still the most widely used worldwide, these are devices that have basic calling capabilities and may be locked or unlocked. If a mobile phone is locked it only works with a specific carrier, for example AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile. After 90 days many companies are allowing phones to be unlocked or an unlock code can be purchased.

Smartphones and pocket pcs are more complex devices with the convenience of sending and receiving text messages, emails and allowing storage of documents and files. Each brand has its own operating system such as Windows Mobile, IOS or Blackberry. Continue reading »
